Microstructure engineering encompasses a broad range of activities with the goal of optimizing the structure and properties of metals and alloys. This is an exciting area which has seen tremendous advances in the past 10 years related, at least in part, to the incorporation of advanced computational approaches to materials science. Our approach stresses novel experimental approaches combined with the development of physically based models which are often fully integrated into continuum deformation or temperature models (i.e. FEM models).
Hosted by the University of British Columbia, the Centre for Metallurgical Process Engineering (CMPE) focuses on the development of advanced metallurgical processes and products. The breadth of the research within the centre spans from hydrometallurgy to microstructural design at the atomic scale.
We seek to bring together research and researchers who share a common goal to develop revolutionary metallurgical processing technologies with a focus on improved efficiency and on sustainability. The new products and applications arising from our advances provide a competitive advantage to our global industrial partners.
